Total solar eclipse forecast: Will your city have clear skies Monday?

00:58 07.04.2024

As the highly anticipated total solar eclipse approaches on Monday, meteorologists are warning that clouds may obstruct the view for spectators in Texas and other areas along the path in North America. National Weather Service meteorologist Bob Oravec stated that most of Texas does not look promising for optimal viewing conditions. The best chances for clear skies are in northern New England and Canada, according to forecasts.

Rebecca Aman, who traveled from Chicago to Dallas in hopes of witnessing the eclipse, expressed her nervousness but is trying to maintain a positive attitude for the weekend. Oravec himself changed his plans and decided to travel to Indianapolis from Maryland, ditching Texas and Rochester, New York due to the weather forecast. The weather service is providing updates throughout the weekend, with concerns about clouds potentially blocking the view in parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.

Despite the uncertainty, viewers in the path of the eclipse are advised to wear eclipse glasses for safety. The path of total darkness stretches from Mexico and Texas through Maine and parts of Canada. However, severe thunderstorms in the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley after the eclipse could pose travel challenges.

For those unable to witness the eclipse in person due to cloudy conditions, there are online options available for viewing. NASA, the Associated Press, the Exploratorium museum, Time and Date, and Slooh will be broadcasting live coverage of the eclipse. As the forecast continues to evolve, viewers are encouraged to stay updated on the latest information and adjust their plans accordingly.
