UK Court: Australian Computer Scientist Not Bitcoin Founder Satoshi Nakamoto

12:11 15.03.2024

A London High Court judge has ruled that Australian computer scientist Craig Wright is not the mysterious inventor of bitcoin known as Satoshi Nakamoto. The ruling came after the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) took Wright to court to prevent him from suing bitcoin developers and to establish that he was not the creator of the cryptocurrency. COPA accused Wright of forging documents to support his claim, which he denied during the trial. Justice James Mellor stated that the evidence against Wright was overwhelming and that he was not the author of the bitcoin white paper or the person operating under the pseudonym Nakamoto. COPA hailed the ruling as a victory for developers and the open-source community, claiming that Wright had used his false identity to bully and intimidate individuals in the bitcoin community. This decision will have significant implications for the pending lawsuits filed by Wright based on his claim to the intellectual property rights of bitcoin. Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency, was released in 2009 as open-source software and operates independently of banks or governments. The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains a mystery, with speculation swirling for years about who the real creator of bitcoin is. Wright's claim to be Nakamoto has been debunked by the court, putting an end to his attempts to control the intellectual property rights of the world's most popular virtual currency.
