Nvidia's Meteoric Rise to AI Prominence: By the Numbers

02:24 23.02.2024

Nvidia's stock price saw a historic surge on Thursday, jumping 16% and adding a staggering $273 billion to the company's market value in just one day. This increase marks a record amount for the chipmaker, which has been experiencing a surge in demand for its semiconductors used in artificial intelligence (AI) applications. In fact, Nvidia's revenue more than tripled in the latest quarter compared to the same period a year earlier, showcasing the company's strong position in the AI market.

Nvidia's total market value now stands at $1.915 trillion, making it the third most valuable public company behind Microsoft and Apple. This is a significant increase from its valuation of around $580 billion just a year ago. The company's revenue for the fiscal year ended Jan. 28 was $60.9 billion, more than double its revenue for 2022 and about six times what it was five years ago. Wall Street analysts are expecting Nvidia's revenue to surpass $100 billion in fiscal 2025.

One of the most impressive figures for Nvidia is its net margin, which stands at 48.8%. This means that almost 50 cents of every $1 in revenue goes to the company's bottom line, highlighting its profitability. In comparison, Apple's net margin is 25.3% and Microsoft's is 34.1%, although both companies have significantly higher revenue than Nvidia.

The jump in Nvidia's stock price on Thursday has solidified its position as one of the most prominent players in the AI market, with its market value surpassing that of market stalwarts like Bank of America and Coca-Cola. The company's success is a clear indicator that the excitement surrounding artificial intelligence is unlikely to subside anytime soon.
